Demonstrations in stone carving with Michelle Byrne and Martin Lyttle!

New Work

Michelle & I were gently persuaded by the powers that be in “Visual” to do a demonstration of our stone working practices at our studios/workshops. Michelle & I work quite differently, her work being very exact forms which are generally sand-blasted and my work being fairly loose and free, a bit like sketching in stone. The event was held on 13th August, the participants spent the morning with me and the afternoon with Michelle. We all went for a lovely lunch at Osborne’s Pub in Rathanna (thanks Melanie for the food).

Thanks to all those who came and thanks to “Visual” and especially Emma-Lucy for organising the event and her support.

Thanks to Cathy for taking the photos.

Martin Lyttle is a recognised Irish stone sculptor. With a sensitivity to the local lithology of an area, Martin works only with local Irish stone from quarries or found stone. He is interested in organic shapes and forms especially those found in nature. Much of his work is hand-polished so his works are wonderful to touch and hold. His work has been selected for the Royal Hibernian Academy Annual Exhibitions and he has completed large scale public and private commissions. He is a member of FORM designmade in Carlow and the Blackstairs 9 Stones Artists Groups.
